How to Explain Reply Gaps Without Apologising for Existing

Make pace a protocol before silence becomes a story.

Name the normal range, the meaning, and the useful response. For example: **“I reply in bursts and can go quiet for three or four days. It isn’t disinterest. A second message is welcome; a countdown is not.”**

Do not promise a frequency you cannot sustain to make an early connection feel safer. Invite the other person to name their reassurance needs too. A pace contract is reciprocal: one person’s processing time does not erase the other person’s need for clarity.

When capacity changes, a low-demand signal such as “offline, still interested” can preserve context without opening a full conversation.
