Dating While You’re Learning to Unmask

Authenticity is not a compulsory full reveal.

Unmasking is not a performance task you owe a partner. Start by noticing the difference between adaptation you choose and behavior produced by fear. Share one concrete change: less eye contact, more recovery time, stimming, or asking literal questions.

Tell the other person what helps when a trait appears later. **“If I get quieter, ask whether I need less input; don’t assume I’m angry.”**

A safe partner does not romanticise your masking or demand instant vulnerability. They adapt too.
